FAQS

HOW CAN THERAPY HELP ME?

Therapy can be helpful in many different ways. Therapists' can serve as a confidential, unbiased, listening ear to provide support, science-backed strategies for skill development, and can assist in problem solving. Often, the building of new insights and ideas is stimulated from the therapeutic relationship.

WHAT IS THE INITIAL PROCESS LIKE TO BEGIN THERAPY?

The first step begins with you reaching out to me for a phone consultation (contact info here). I will spend time with you discussing what is bringing you to therapy; what are your stressors? your goals? After that, if you feel it is the right fit, we will schedule a time to complete an evaluation.

More information on the initial therapy process can be found here.

is therapy confidential?

All communication between a therapist and client are confidential with a few exceptions. Those exceptions are:

  • If a client intends to harm themself. A therapist will work with a client to ensure their safety, however if safety cannot be assured additional measures may have to be taken.

  • If a client intends to cause bodily harm to another person a therapist is required to notify the police.

  • If suspected child or elder abuse is occurring a therapist must report the abuse to the authorities immediately.

HOW LONG DOES THERAPY LAST?

The length of therapy is not the same for everyone and can be difficult to predict at the start of treatment (as unforeseen concerns may come up along the process of exploration). Length of treatment often depends on the person’s symptoms and concerns, as some issues may be treated “faster” than others. This is typically because certain diagnoses and concerns are treated with different types of therapies, and not all therapies have the same “timeline”. Call today to find out what yours looks like!

HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION? HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME?

Each session will last approximately 60 minutes. How often you come to therapy is dependent upon several factors: how frequent and intense are your symptoms? How much are symptoms impacting your life? How fast are you looking for relief? What is in your budget? This is something we will collaborate on together to ensure you are getting the right level of care.

HOW ARE CANCELLATIONS AND MISSED APPOINTMENTS HANDLED?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy; if you provide notice of cancellation in under 24-hours or miss an appointment without providing any notice, you will be charged the full session amount.

DO YOU OFFER THERAPY ONLINE OR IN PERSON?

I am happily offering both in person and virtual sessions. Call to inquire about which is the best fit for you.
